The Opulence mural covers a five-story building in the South Bronx. Yuki worked through three nor'easters, painting gold leaf into concrete during breaks in the storm.
“Weather is just another collaborator. The rain made the gold run in ways I never planned. It was better than anything I could have designed.”
— Yuki Tanaka
Tanaka's technique is labor-intensive: traditional Japanese calligraphy brushes, actual gold leaf, and industrial spray paint. Each character takes hours.

“The most expensive material I use costs nothing. Time. Attention. Care. That's the real luxury.”
— Yuki Tanaka
Opulence redefines wealth. The central imagery—kanji characters spelling 'abundance' rendered in gold against crimson—declares that richness exists wherever we decide it does.
“Poverty is a lie they tell to keep us small. We have always been magnificent.”
